The venerable Honda Gold Wing is getting a recall that affects only the manual transmission model of the long-distance tourer.
According to NHTSA documents, the recall affects 1,740 units from the 2020-2022 model years, and concerns the ignition timing programmed into the bikes’ ECUs.
This recall does not affect any Honda Gold Wings that have the company’s dual-clutch transmission (DCT) installed.
The issue stems from an improper ignition timing program, which may retard the timing if the clutch lever is pulled within a specific range, while the transmission in second gear or higher with a closed throttle.
To remedy the problem, Honda dealers will update the ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by August 20, 2022.
Concerned Honda Gold Wing owners may contact American Honda Motor Co. customer service at 1-866-784-1870. As always, the NHTSA is available at 1-888-327-4236 and safercar.gov.
