The revolutionary Arter Matchless G50 was ridden by Peter Williams, placing second in the Senior TT three times (1969, 1970, and 1972). The bike is also famous for being the first ever to wear cast magnesium alloy wheels, which earned it its nickname, "Wagonwheels". With its use of twin disc brakes and wind cheating bodywork, it held the 102.74 mph single-cylinder lap record until 1997. "Wagonwheels" was the last privateer and the last single-cylinder machine to effectively complete in the World Championship. The event is sponsored by Vanson Leathers, Red Line Synthetic Oil, and Avon Tyres.
