’Anaconda’ XBR500 / Renard Speed Shop

When it comes to paint schemes, many custom motorcycle builders will play it safe and go with something either inoffensively understated or reminiscent of the original factory offerings. After all, once you’ve put hundreds of hard-earned hours into a bike, the last thing you want is for a questionable color choice to ruin your viewers’ overall impression.

However, Estonia’s Renard Speed Shop is clearly an exception to the rule, as evidenced by the motorcycle you see before you. Having started its life as a 1988 Honda XBR500, it underwent a complete transformation out of which it emerged as a sweet 70s-inspired scrambler named ‘Anaconda.’ It may not look like a typical Renard’s build, but dig a little deeper and you’ll find it to be business as usual. So in addition to some top-notch fab work — such as a repurposed fire extinguisher for the oil tank, a low-profile swingarm to match the frame, and a custom-made mount for the air filter — you’ll also find an airbrushed leather seat, six-piston Beringer brakes, and some of Renard’s own in-house switchgear. Oh and the best part — the ignition key has been machined to look like a guitar input plug.
