Endurance motorcycles of the 80th had their charm. "Workhorse Speed Shop" created a custom, which combined the style of these motorcycles and racing bikes for short distances. The project was named "Sakura" and was created on a Yamaha XSR700 as the base. The bike will take part in the 2018 Sultans of Sprint. Brice Hennebert of Workhorse Speed Shop is the latest builder commissioned by Yamaha to create a Yard Built custom.
Sultans of Sprint is the famous race in Europe. 1/8 class races are held at major events such as Glemseck 101. One-cylinder and twin cylinder motorcycles with liquid cooling and the maximum power to weight not more than 0.65 hp. / kg can take part in the factory class. Frame has to be an original or modified original. Swingarm can be extented up to 20% of its original length. Everything else is within the rules, and Bryce took advantage of all the possibilities.
Project details:
- inspiration: Yamaha FZR750 "Gauloises" Bol d'or 1985 Sonauto team
- body kit: hand made of sheet aluminum, custom fasteners
- saddle: custom aluminum pallet, Silvermachine upholstery
- subframe: custom 20-mm CR-mo tubing
- fuel tank: in place of the original tank installed all the electronics, Bryce made a new aluminum tank mounted on the bottom (can fit only 2 liters, which is enough for 1/8 mile)
- fork: removed from the old Yamaha R1 sport
- the pendulum: a custom of chrome-molybdenum tube (exactly 20% longer drain)
- shock absorber: Nitron R3
- battery: Liteblox
- steering wheel: clips, ISR controls, speedhut tachometer, etc.
- engine: Fabian Lamy's work from Flybike; balanced every detail, improved cooling, custom camshafts, titanium valves, stamped Wiseco pistons, stainless steel exhaust with Austin Racing muffler, Carillo connecting rods, balanced crankshaft, removed counterweight, Suter clutch (motor weighs only 52.2 kg)
- nitrous oxide: NOS 150 Pro Series with max Extreme V2 controller
- weight: 138 kg (40 kg lighter than the original)&
