deleted, Single vehicle MVA. Basically I’m an idiot that grabbed brake because people are constantly telling me how dangerous riding is, and thus, rode too cautious and inadvertently caused this. Brand new Sport 5s on it. There was no cause for this except me being inexperienced and listening too much to “them”.
Riding cautiously (as in constantly reaching for the brakes) is the most dangerous way to ride in my opinion. Trust the machine. Nothing you don’t know already by the sounds of it ?
Quite right on all accounts. Broken rib, infected knee from the most pathetic amount of gravel rash.. I suspect almost broke my sternum and collar bone, given the amount of remaining pain and bruising. Possibly some further joint issues in the arm, while I’m complaining. Pride? A little, but if it mattered that much I wouldn’t have told anyone ;) a week prior a litre bike crashed on the same corner. I saw the wreck.... DAMN. I’d say the corner itself is also imperfect, too.
That out on Paddy’s River road, mate? There’s a few really tricky ones there. Plus one for some skills training. I did a Stay Upright Advanced course when on my Ls years ago (in Queensland, in the days when licensing up there was super strict! None of this, “Here’s ya Ls, you’re on ya own” BS. Every ride had to be ‘shadowed’ by someone on their Open). The difference that has made since... Failing that, plenty of resources online (YouTube). Motojitsu, Canyonchasers...even check out A Twist of the Wrist (Keith Code). It’s cheesy, but some good stuff buried in there. Recover quickly and well, huh? Might see ya out there sometime!
Thanks mate. I’ve seen a few of the training videos. I’d already considered the advanced courses but to be honest, at 44 I suspect this concludes my riding adventures. Too old this horse shit.
walkinow, Mate...I got back on at 57 (after 15 years off them). Mate of mine (56) just bought himself a ‘new hoss’ (650 Honda) on Friday after about the same time away. We’re both ganging up on a mutual friend (of similar vintage) to get back on. Never too late...
I do work in Civic, yes. Don’t have a Duke though (sadly). Close...TRX850 Yamaha (a sorta Japanese 900 SS. Only reliable lol) It’s yellow. Normally commute on my R1150GS (also yellow).
