Indian Powerplus 1916 (The restored photo and the original)
1918 photo of a man on an Indian Motorcycle in Brenham, Texas. The machine is outfitted with extras including: an acetylene headlamp, a handlebar-mounted Klaxon horn, a toolbox, an air pump, and a rack for parcels on the back. The proud rider is wearing a heavy cardigan sweater, as was popular back in this time period. Note the American flag motif pinwheel attached to the front fender.
The motorcycle is a 1916 1000cc Powerplus, Model F, three speed. This is a distinctive bike as it features a few one year only items. 1916 was the first year of the side valve F head engines, replacing the earlier IOE. The 1916 Powerplus was the only year to have the tank between the frame tubes, in 1917 the frame was redesigned and saddle tanks were introduced. The Powerplus was made up to 1924.
