Cruden has presented a new motorcycle simulator to imitate motorcycle riding with authenticity.

Allegedly, it is harder to create a motorcycle simulator than that needed for an aircraft or a car. In contrast to cars, boats or aircrafts, the motorcycle steering and riding processes are greatly influenced by the position of the rider's body - therefore very complex algorithms and sensors are required so that the machine can adapt the necessary changes to the weight shifting.7566705943d6368ab24.jpg

Moreover, the motorcycle steering process is made even more difficult to mimic by the essential riding technique of counter-steering. Cruden’s much more sophisticated system uses depth-map sensors to continuously detect exactly how the rider is positioned on the bike and uses this information to alter vehicle behavior accordingly.

Riding a motorcycle requires a very large field of view, both horizontally and vertically. This is because the rider has a much more unobstructed view on a motorcycle in comparison to a car, as well as because there is a tendency to look back more on a motorcycle. To cater for the large demand in field of view, one would have to design a very big projection system, which would have to be placed relatively close to the rider. This approach would be expensive and impractical. Therefore, Cruden has equipped its motorcycle simulator, the B306-HMD, with a Head Mounted Display (HMD) instead, which offers a virtually unlimited field of view. The rider is visually completely isolated from the real world but feels the real motorcycle where the rider sees the virtual motorcycle, thanks to the highly accurate graphics and perfect integration of the HMD into Cruden’s Panthera simulation software.

The only thing the simulator does not provide is a centrifugal force that would "push" you up to the bike when you lean. This means that you will need more muscle work to keep on the bike while leaning.

Cruden has been building professional-grade motorcycle simulators since 2005, and it claims that now its specialists have managed to make it as realistic as possible. The cost of such a simulator is not known yet, but it is already clear that it will be high.
