A legend has been reborn. Suzuki has unveiled the all-new Katana at the 2018 International Motorcycle Fair in Cologne, Germany, and it looks just as sharp as its moniker suggests.
Inspired by the iconic GSX1100S Katana that made waves during the 1980 Cologne Motor Show, the all-new Katana packs a 999cc liquid-cooled in-line-four engine—based off the GSX-R1000's motor—capable of 148hp at 10,000rpm and 108Nm of torque at 9,500rpm. Oh, and its frame weighs in at just 215kg.
Man, and just check out that design: Bold lines, incredibly sporty profile, and several aesthetic tweaks that build on the whole "Japanese sword of tempered steel" theme. The vertically stacked LED headlights look great, and the turn signals and plate number adopt a low position for a sleeker and much more compact overall appearance.
Other performance bits worth noting are the inclusion of Brembo radial-mount front-brake calipers and three-mode traction control. The all-new Katana will be produced at the company's manufacturing facility in Hamamatsu, Japan, and is expected to be launched globally in 2019.
"Our role at Suzuki is to create products people need, bringing a source of fun and excitement into their lives. The all-new Katana is a great demonstration of Suzuki's future," says company president Toshihiro Suzuki. "There is much more to come from Suzuki, as we maintain our customer-focused perspective and bring innovative and exciting motorcycles to people around the world."
The bike manufacturer also shared plans to launch 10 new models—mainly large motorcycles—by the year 2021. Excited?
