Lego, over the years, has partnered with several automobile companies to create special replicas. But the famous Danish toymaker joined hands with the iconic Italian brand -- Ducati -- a few months ago and revealed Ducati Panigale V4 R's brick replica in April this year. This Lego Panigale comprises 646 pieces and is on sale in Europe for €50. However, what we didn't know back then was that Lego and Ducati were also working on the superbike's life-size model, which was revealed a few days ago in Modena. Built by Lego artist Riccardo Zangelmi, the Lego Ducati Panigale V4 R 1:1 replica was unveiled alongside the actual bike by Andrea Dovizioso, MotoGP rider for Ducati Corse team.
This life-sized Lego Panigale V4 R is based on a real Panigale V4 R that has been stripped off it's fairing. So, mechanically, underneath those Lego bricks is a 998 cc Desmosedici Stradale R engine that puts out 217 bhp and 112 Nm of peak torque. Even the frame and suspension setup is the same as that of a standard V4 R -- aluminum alloy front frame and Ohlins suspension. But the replica includes 15,000 Lego Technic bricks and 400 man-hours. Riccardo and his team didn't use glue for the bricks and anchorages and even built and disassembled the bike 8 times. But the best part about Lego Panigale V4 R 1:1 is that it tips the scales at 180 kg, which is ONLY 8 kg more than the actual motorcycle.
Andrea Dovizioso, rider, Ducati Team MotoGP, said, "I am very happy because I never imagined I’d have the chance to unveil a bike like this. Almost everyone at some point in their lives has played with LEGO bricks at least once, but seeing up close a replica of the Panigale V4 is something incredible and at a very high level. I would like to congratulate the LEGO artist Riccardo Zangelmi for building such a true to life and a detailed version of the motorcycle. I’m sure children and adults alike will be captivated by this incredible model."
