It is likely that most of you would answer the New KTM 790 Duke if I asked you what is the most revolutionary model in KTM's lineup. When this bike was first released in 2018, it raised the bar in accessible performance for KTM. In fact, it filled a gap between the 690 and the new KTM 1290 Super Duke R, attracting plenty of riders to Team Orange.
LC8C-powered machines, such as the 790 Adventure and Adventure R, as well as the RC 8C track-only sportbike, followed the KTM 790 Duke. We were about to say goodbye to the KTM 790 Duke in 2021, when the 890 Duke and 890 Duke R took its place in the global market firmly. The 790 Duke, however, has been brought back from the dead in 2022 and serves as Team Orange's entry-level machine in its big bike range.
For those who do not have the budget for the more costly 890 model, KTM will release the 790 Duke in France by January, 2023. Furthermore, the KTM 790 Duke will also be available in an A2-compliant version for beginners. Featuring 47.6 horsepower, the A2 will be perfect for younger riders who want to hone their skills on a more performance-oriented platform before they upgrade to the unrestricted model.
In terms of performance, the KTM 790 Duke remains the same as last year's model. 105 horsepower and 60 ft-lbs of torque are derived from KTM's 799cc parallel-twin engine codenamed LC8C, one of the most powerful engines in the middleweight class. It is also equipped with premium underpinnings that make it stand out from its competition. Although its 43-millimeter WP inverted forks are not adjustable, the WP rear monoshock offers superb handling. There are also dual four-piston radial brakes, a full LED lighting system, and a TFT display.
In addition to the technology features, the bike includes advanced rider aids, including cornering ABS powered by the IMU and traction control. ABS can be turned completely off, or set to supermoto mode, which disables only the rear ABS, to keep the bike manageable under any condition. Despite not yet announcing a pricing for the 790 Duke in France, it is expected to cost around 9,000 Euros, or about $8,789.
