Rural Hilltribe Village...
A couple of days ago I took a ride to ???? ???? ????? ????, which lies at the summit of Suthep-Pui mountain in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Doi Suthep-Pui is Thailand’s 24th National Park which encompasses approximately 261 square kilometres of territory. This village at the peak of the mountain has a small population of ethnic Hmong people, whose main source of income comes from farming (fruit, vegetables, tea and coffee) and tourism.
?????????? During the 1950's, the Hmong people's main source of income was from opium crops; a drug that was in high demand during the Vietnam war, (despite it becoming illegal to cultivate opium in 1959).
A turn-around came in 1969 when his then Majesty, King Bhumibol Adulyadej visited the Hmong people and initiated a research and #agricultural training project, to help eradicate the growing of Opium. This marked the start of the #RoyalProject, which can be seen all over Northern Thailand.
Suthep- Pui mountain area forms part of the Thanon Thong Chai Range. This area stretches over several Thai provinces and includes Thailand’s tallest peak: Doi Inthanon, the foothills of the Himalayas, which stands at 2,565 metres tall.
Baan Khun Chiang Kian has a cool climate all year round, with temperatures averaging around 20-23 degrees °C. During the winter months of November to January, the temperature can drop significantly. This low temperature means that some rare and beautiful flowers can be grown, notably the Sakura Cherry Blossom, which attracts many visitors during late January/early February. A previous video I took a few months ago of the Sakura is here: https://youtu.be/7ZD-RpchuHc
The area is also important for a number of species of fauna due to the unique climate, and with over 300 species of bird life, it is a popular zone for bird-watching.
Hope you enjoyed that little bit of info on a lovely place.
