So why is it called "The Million Dollar Highway"?
Well, there are several legends. Some say it took a million dollars a mile to build back in 1926. Others say it's because the fill dirt used to build it contains a million dollars of gold ore.
I say it's because every turn rewards you with a million-dollar view for over 25 miles. And some of the most awe-inspiring views are when you ride over Red Mountain Pass. This Pass has the highest avalanche hazard in North America. With 1,000 feet drop-offs on each side of the road and no guardrails, these are memories that will last a lifetime.
