De-rusting Harley flywheel with electrolytic rust removal principle

Hi Everyone! Today i am going to share with you how to take rust out of an old Harley motorcycle flywheel with the electrolytic rust removal principle. All you need is a plastic bucket (non conductive material), with steel rod inside that is set all around the inside of the bucket that serve as attractive pole (positive pole on top of one of those rods), with a piece of non conductive material over the bucket with steel rod over it (negative pole clamp on the part that need to be clean),you also need a battery charger and some…..Arm & Hammer washing soda( about half a cup in a 5 gallon bucket work great for me), the battery charger will not work if you have and overload protection on it.

Here is the washing soda and the kind of battery charger you will need to do that kind of work…

First 2 picture show you how bad was the flywheel before plunging the flywheel in the bucket, for 3 hours in the bucket at 12 Volts 20 Amps, the results start to show how it is really working…

The immersion in the bucket with second picture showing how to mount the positive and negative ,(remember the negative pole always on the part that need to be clean …or the end result will be more rust on your parts….)

After 3 hours in the bucket at 12 Volts and 20 Amps the rust start to go away, like magic, then with a little brush and scuff pad the flywheel start looking like new again…

The flywheel looks a lot better now than it was before, tomorrow I will take care of the other one….hope this help those of you who have problem with rusted parts, the main advantage of this set up, it could take care of different corroded parts without removing the remaining metal except …rust.
