Weird indicator problem

Any ideas what could cause the dash light to flash like normal but the indicators themselves (front and rear) not to work? Seems my indicators work on one side only which I think rules out an issue with the fuse or relay. I'm going to rebuild the switch tomorrow but of there are other, simpler things to check first, I'd much rather given them a try.
