Triumph T100R Frame Prep

Stripped the old paint off the Daytona frame over the last couple of nights.

Most of the paint just came flying off with a 4″ wire wheel on an angle grinder. From there the frame was sanded going from 180 to 400 grit paper. I’ll use SEM Self-Etch primer before bringing it to Autobahn Body Works for a fresh coat of black paint.

No wonder the Japanese took over the bike market by the late 70’s. Some of these castings are pretty rough, once the paint was off stuff like this and excessive braze and weld slag were all over.

Couple this kind of stuff with reliability stigmas and the Brits left the door wide open…………….but who cares, they’re still some of the coolest bikes ever built……..and it’s tough to manufacture “cool”.
