This week KTM CEO Stefan Pierer revealed some important information about KTM's future plans. We’ve already told about the possibility of buying Ducati, which caused a stir in the global motorcycle community. The German magazine Speedweek published another part of the interview with Pierer, devoted to KTM’s future plans in the middleweight categories.

First, Pierer noted that we would see another motorcycle added to the 790 lineup, now that the Duke and Adventure models are out. A large street-focused supermoto a KTM 790 SMT will differ from the Duke and Adventure machines with its 17″ wheels and long-travel suspension. It would be a direct competitor to the new Ducati Hypermotard 950, although it may also take its place in the motorcycle market. We can also assume that a Husqvarna version of the machine could be made as well.

The second one is KTM’s plans for a 500cc models based on a two-cylinder engine. These bikes will be made in Indian by Bajaj. The main goals are to resist similar offerings from Japan and the strengthening of the outreach potential.

When will the novelties be presented? Probably, the KTM 790 SMT will be ready for the next fall. As for the 500cc models, we would expect a longer wait. Pierer says that the project is already done, but there isn’t a physical bike yet being tested.
