The first pre-season test of the 2019 MotoGP season took place in Sepang last week. Throughout the winter, manufacturers were preparing, developing their new prototypes. So what can we expect?
Let’s start with the Ducati, as the Bologna manufacturer has surprised everyone – the Italian bikes took the first four places. The final day of the official Sepang MotoGP test began with a surprise when the Ducati team presented a new prototype with six small wing sections. Also Dovizioso and Petrucci tested an updated chassis and two redesigned tanks.
And one more detail that we’ve missed. A mysterious switch was spotted on the bike. According to some reports, it’s a “holeshot device” to compress the front suspension at race start, for less wheelie. Others have suggested that the device controls a lever-operated rear braking system. We hope to find out what it is in the near future.
Yamaha
Valentino and Maverick were testing a new fairing. Through last winterYamaha engineers focused on the new engine. They’ve taken to Sepang only one unit to decide where to go next.
Honda
The Honda team tested an advanced exhaust system and a new fairing, as well as a new engine.Anyway, the Japanese manufacturer didn’t wow.
Suzuki
Alex Rins and Joan Mir were trying out the new fairings as well as compared the chassis. During previous tests,Sylvain Guintoli and Takuya Tsuda, Suzuki MotoGP test riders, were testing dual exhaust.
KTM
According to some media reports, the Austrian manufacturer tested several versions of the engine, as well as a carbon swingarm, a new fairing, a carbon fork, a new tail and a redesigned exhaust. In addition, Johann Zarco tried out a new seat, made specially for him to improve comfort.
Aprilia
In 2019, the Italians showed a completely new prototype with a carbon swingarm.
The next tests will be held on February 23 in Qatar.
