Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman are planning their third travel documentary, Long Way Up, from South America to Los Angeles on Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycles.
It all started, when Ewan McGregor was spotted in Argentina with David Alexanian, director and producer of Long Way Round/Down a few days ago. Then some social media showed photos of the four brand-new electric Harley-Davidson LiveWire bikes, ready for Argentina's cold weather – two for riding, one for a cameraman and one as a backup.
By the way, we know Ewan loves electric vehicles. He converted his old Volkswagen Beetle to an electric car and participated in a documentary about electric motorcycles called Charge in 2011.While attending a recent electric grand prix race in Rome, Ewan said:
“In twenty years we will not use fuel, everything will be plugged in.”
Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman are also expected to be supported by two electric Rivian R1T pick-up trucks, manufactured in Illinois by Rivian, a company devoted to building “Electric Adventure Vehicles”. The Rivian trucks are likely to carry DC fast chargers.
If Ewan and Charley are planning to ride from the bottom of South America, possibly as far as Alaska, it should take some time on electric bikes. The Rivian truck has about 400 miles of range, but the LiveWire only has 146 miles of highway range and 95 miles of city range.Charging times will certainly make it a long trip.
But it isn’t the end of the vehicle team. There will be two additional 4×4 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vansand a single Ford F350 (V8 6.2), which will carry some mobile DC fast chargers as well as crew members, spare parts and the spare bike.
By the way, we’ve been waiting for this third Ewan and Charley Long Way Up America trip for about 10 years. Ewan McGregor couldn’t afford a few months off because of his Hollywood movies. Plus Ewan is ambassador for Moto Guzzi and Charley is ambassador for Triumph.
Route details have not been announced yet, but we expected this adventure to be interesting.
