LiveWire, Harley-Davidson’s electric motorcycle division, is gearing up to introduce the Del Mar, its second-ever product by the second quarter (Q2) of this year.
The first product to be based on LiveWire’s Arrow architecture, the Del Mar will be considered a middleweight machine in the general context of motorcycle classification.
Essentially built around a structural Lithium-ion battery, the Arrow platform will have the electric motor, power electronics, steering headstock, front and rear suspension and swingarm connected to the pack.
The battery can be cooled by either air, liquid or refrigerant, the on-board charger and inverter share the cooling circuit and these along with the direct drive electric motor can either be air- or liquid-cooled.
LiveWire has said the architecture is scalable – it can be used to produce lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight (long-range) electric bikes – and the voltage system can be between 50 V or over 400 V.
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire Del Mar will come with GPS, smartphone connectivity, over-the-air updates and of course various ride modes as well as modes for regen, among other features.
Nothing else is known about the motorcycle for now. When it comes to its design, performance figures and more importantly range, your guess is as good as mine. But, one need only wait for a few months to get to know the answer.
