Back in the ’90s, Harley-Davidson had produced a 135 HP, V-twin sportbike called the VR1000. It was a fully-faired motorcycle that was built for road racing. Now, whether or not it was a successful machine for motorsports or not is a debate for some other day. Today, we’ve brought up the VR1000 because Italy-based GDesign‘s latest work is a customized 1999 Buell S1 inspired by the ’90s VR1000.
It’s quite evident with the design of the custom motorcycle that it represents something special. It features a twin headlight setup that is bound to turn heads. The heavily-modded fairing draws some inspiration from endurance race bikes and Harley-Davidson’s earlier ‘70s-era XRTT racer. Another interesting element of this motorcycle is the boxy, 1980s-style fiberglass tail section.
GDesign has used multiple parts from different brands to complete this project. For example, the clip-ons and rear sets are from Tommaselli, knee pads courtesy of L. R. Leather Goods, and the dual exhaust system has been made by SuperTrapp.
Parts of the original Buell S1 that have been retained include the USD forks, underslung, horizontally-mounted mono-shock setup, and stock wheels. Also, the air-cooled 1,203cc V-Twin engine has been carried forward but has received a new intake and cover and a DynoJet control unit.
