Originally known as the FTR 1200, the Indian FTR is a high-performance standard motorcycle that takes visual inspiration from the brand’s AMA AFT Twins-dominating FTR750 flat track racer. And while the FTR already took things in a markedly more performance-focused direction for Indian, the company has now opted to double down on the model’s superbike-like qualities with the release of the new Indian FTR Sport.
Priced to fall between the $13,499 base model FTR and the $17,249 R Carbon-spec, the FTR Sport comes standard with a suite of supersport-inspired bodywork that includes a small windscreen, a number plate, and a monoposto tail cover — all of which comes adorned in one of two different Sport-spec exclusive liveries. A set of 17” cast wheels shod in Metzeler Sportec rubber, and fully adjustable suspension fore and aft further contribute to the FTR Sport’s performance prowess — as do the FTR Sport’s four-pot Brembo Monobloc calipers and the oversized 320mm rotors they bite down on.
The new Sport-spec of this American-made motorcycle also retains the same engine as the base model FTR (and the FTR R Carbon), with a liquid-cooled 1,203cc V-Twin that puts down 120hp and 87ft-lbs of torque. Alongside a 4” RIDE COMMAND TFT display, Indian has also bestowed the FTR Sport with an impressive slew of tech such as lean-angle sensitive ABS and stability control, plus cornering pre-control, wheelie mitigation, and traction control.
Offered in White Lightning and Indy Red or Black Metallic livery options, the 2023 Indian FTR Sport is available now, with pricing starting at $15,749. Indian is also producing a wide range of optional add-ons for the FTR Sport including upgraded exhaust systems and multiple pieces of luggage.
