My Version of Vehicle Diagnostics
One of my best bros asked me if I could ride his RC51 and shake it down a little to troubleshoot some of the issues he'd been having with it recently. Of course I was happy to oblige.
It's geared long, so it wants to run somewhere between 120 and 200 mph. Our speed limits only allow for 65 with a 5-10 mph leeway depending on which cop I meet on the road, and I'm one of those rare sport bike riders who will actually be relatively compliant with speed limits. I've never seen a bike lug in 5th and 6th gears at 70 mph before, but it is a V-Twin, so.... Taking off is a bit of a challenge. The friction point on the clutch is a little high. The clutch lever might need to be adjusted, or it could simply be that we're not used to the long stoke of that V-Twin. Maybe a little of both. Both are simple fixes if that's the case.
I noticed a click in the drive train when I let off the throttle at low speeds. I'm not sure what that is. It shifts smoothly and doesn't grind, so I don't think it's the transmission. The rear sprocket still has all it's teeth, but we haven't checked the front. The chain seems to be in fairly good shape, but it's a little tight. I know it'll interfere with the suspension the way it's currently set.
Then there's that feeling like the front wheel is egg shaped when I apply the front brake. It could be warped brake rotors, or it could have something to do with the dry rotted front tire and low pressure.
It was a cool experience though. I absolutely would not hesitate to do it again.
