MV Agusta set to return to MotoGP in 2027, but without their own engines

MV Agusta has a remarkable history in the Motorcycling Grand Prix. The brand won 75 titles between the years 1952 and 1974. But after the death of Count Domenico Agusta, the brand plummeted into infamy.

After financial struggles, KTM acquired 50.1% of the Italian brand in 2024, making KTM the owner of MV Agusta. KTM was rumored to be returning the brand to MotoGP, and it seems likely that this will be for 2027 when the technical regulations change. However, this will be done with a separately designed engine, as the engines used will be KTM ones.

This was recently confirmed by KTM CEO Hubert Trunkenpolz. As Trunkenpolz explained.
"We will not do it by developing a separate engine, because the best internal MotoGP engine is only one, and we don't want to deprive MV of that. From 2024 to 2026, we have to get the company up and running again. It's going to take some time to stabilize all aspects, from the product range to the production sites and also the commercial side. Until we have everything in order, it doesn't make sense to compete in MotoGP."
