Moriwaki CB1100RC replica.

This was at the time probably my most ambitious project. It involved quite a bit of fabrication work since I used such a mix of parts to create it. It started with a healthy obsession with the 1100RC. I wanted one so bad I could barely stand it. Every time I saw one I was awe struck. The fact that they were pretty scarce did not help. At the time I started this project I still had my CB750F with the RC bodywork. Even though it was cool it still did not have the shock and awe value of the 1100RC which I craved so badly.

So I set out to build an even better replica. I started with a stock CB750F frame. I had this rolling chassis (with a blown motor) sitting under my carport. I stripped it down to the frame and started to assemble the parts I needed to build it. First their was the 1000cc Moriwaki race motor that I bought from a friend. Then there was the VFR750 front end also purchased from the same friend. Together with an RC gas tank and bits and pieces salvaged from a CB900F and a VFR750F I was all set to go. The fairings were fibreglass reproductions and all the brackets were custom made. Genuine OEM CB1100RC stuff was just not available. I wanted to create a bike that was even better than the original and figured the VFR front end should help in the handling department and the Moriwaki motor made more power than a stock RC motor.

I was very happy with the way it turned out. It was scary fast and turn in was fast even bordering on a little scary with the 16″ front wheel. It was rock solid stable once in a turn and you could get on the gas earlier than you would expect. All in all I enjoyed this bike a lot until the GPZ900R came along. After I rode that once the RC never felt the same and my passion for it started to fade fast. The 900 Ninja was just in a totally new class and way ahead of the RC.

Another interesting thing about this bike is the paint. The bike was actually painted all black. The colors are generated by light reflecting off the iridescent reflective colored pigments in the clear coat.
