Day 44 - Hobart to Sorell (via Port Arthur) - 175km
I found something out about myself today while riding and listening to music. My speed relative to the speed limit is directly related to who I'm listening to. Below is a list of artists and there effect on my velocity.
Maroon 5 - 5 under the speed limit
Kendrick Lamar - 10 under the speed limit
Offspring - 10 over the speed limit + aggressive passing
Chris Isaak - 5 under the speed limit
Otis Redding - 15 under the speed limit
Queen - Varies throughout Bohemian Rhapsody
Austrian Death Machine - As fast as she'll go!
I had a good string of high speed music on the way to Sorell today which caused my dad to comment on my speed at dinner and me to look at the contributing factors.
Back to our day, we rode down to Port Arthur and after a few wrong turns we made it 5min before our tour started. Luckily motorcycles could park at the front next to handicap and we caught up with our tour group only a few minutes late. Port Arthur is an Australian prison where convicts from England were sent for petty crimes in the early 1800's. We took a boat out to a tiny island where 1100 convicts and military personnel were buried during the 1800's and it is hard to see how the fit in such a small space. Next we went to the Point Puer Boys Prison which was the first reform school in the world for teenage boys who got in trouble. Most of their crimes were vagrancy which meant the were probably orphans and had no where to go. When I think of the trouble I caused I definitely would have ended up there back in those days. We had a cold and fast ride home and our hotel had 40 different Schnitzel combos to choose from. I went for the chicken volcano with jalapeños, spicy salami and cheese. Mmmmmm....
