Hard Rock Cafe is a chain of restaurants, hotels and casinos. To commemorate the opening of their latest hotel venture on the Spanish island of Tenerife, they’ve presented a cool custom bike made on the basis of the old Harley Davidson FXS Shovelhead. The project was entrusted to Diego “Bermu” Bermúdez, the editor of Spanish custom motorcycle magazine ‘Revival of the Machine’. And he enlisted the help of Alberto Caimi, head wrench turner and designer at Valencia’s Bolt Motor Co.
Together Diego and Alberto created a concept that would see the Shovelhead transformed into a Harley Davidson cafe racer. They called the project “Old Wine” because, like a good bottle of wine, this forty-year-old Harley Davidson took time to reach its full potential.
By the way, Harley Davidson Spain also supported the project, so the customizers got full access to Harley’s catalogue of parts.
Project specs:
- full engine overhaul (new seals, gaskets and serviceable parts, more efficient combustion with a twin spark set up)
- upgraded gearbox from 4 to 6 gears, a new clutch
- frame: almost untouched, slightly enhanced and improved
- forks: rebuilt
- rear suspension: Hagon shocks
- brake system improved thanks to a Brembo radial set up
- custom electronics (Motogadget components)
- Renthal handlebar
- ‘60s BSA race tank
- body kit formed from stainless steel sheet
- paint covering: Rafa García-Cano (F1 helmet painter)
