His path was quite eclectic – from British band frontman and motorcycle enthusiast in the 90s to motorcycle racing team and pub owner. On Monday Keith Flint has been found dead at his home in Essex aged 49.

In the 1990s with his punk aesthetic of piercings and spiked hair, Flint became one of the UK’s most iconic musical figures. He joined the Prodigy as a dancer, later becoming a frontman alongside rapper Maxim. For the rest of us, his name is associated with Isle of Man and British Supersport Championship.

While Flint performed the vocals on the Prodigy’s best known singles, Firestarter and Breathe, he also founded the successful motorcycle racing. He competed in a number of events such as the 1998 Clubman’s Race, where he took the third place. Also Flint traveled from England to Spain by motorcycle to attend the 2007 Spanish Grand Prix.

In 2014, Keith took his bike racing outfit Team Traction Control into the BSB paddock in British Supersport. In 2015, his Team Traction Control crew won three Isle of Man TT races with rider Ian Hutchinson in the saddle. His team also took part in the British Supersport Champion and British Superbike Championship.

In 2014, Flint bought The Leather Bottle pub in Essex.

A spokesperson from Essex police said: “We were called to concerns for the welfare of a man at an address in Brook Hill, North End, just after 8.10am on Monday. We attended and, sadly, a 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Liam Howlett, who formed the group in 1990, wrote on Instagram: “I can’t believe I’m saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend. I’m shell shocked, f***n angry, confused and heart broken .....r.i.p brother Liam”.

The Prodigy released a statement confirming the news, saying: “It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint. A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time.”
