In 2001, the Italian company Ducati presented a limited charged version of its flagship superbike - 996R. The prefix R, abbreviated from Racing, implied a very impressive list of factory improvements. Maximum engine power - 136 hp at 10,200 rpm, and the peak torque reached 105 Nm at 8,000 rpm. Brake system - with 4-piston Brembo calipers.
In total, only 500 of these motorcycles were produced, each of which is numbered with a proprietary metal nameplate. One of them, with serial number 390 (VIN - ZDMH200AA1B013847), was found in San Diego in a completely new condition - still in the factory box! Superbike has never been registered.
The history of this find is equally striking. In the early 2000s, someone put a box with a brand new Ducati 996R into storage in a specialized company. However, due to unknown circumstances, he never returned for him.
According to the rules of the contract, after a certain time, if the client stops paying for services and does not take his property, it becomes the property of the company, which happened in 2012.
Interestingly, this unit is in the European specification, as evidenced by the speedometer, marked in kilometers.
Later, this Ducati 996R was put up for sale for $ 24,900 and successfully sold in just a few months. Not for nothing, after all, Ducati motorcycles of the 916/996/998 line became cult even during lifetime and are still considered one of the most beautiful and advanced superbikes in history.
