The Cerra GT 865 is the custom Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 built by Skunk Machine. The project had multiple development phases, and most importantly, it was done in collaboration. You can read about how this bike came to be in October 2022, but a ton went down behind the scenes during this build.
Carl Cerra certainly was well-spent regarding support, but as you’ll see in Part 1 of a behind-the-scenes look at the build, it did take a lot of work. The machine has an 865cc Hallam Cycle Works bore kit and Reverly Cycles throttle bodies.

Skunk Machine left no stone unturned when it came to documenting the build of their Cerra GT 865. Seeing the final product was and remains a treat, but now, there’s more on tap for us! The folks at RE have taken the opportunity to go deeper in documenting this project with a four-episode build series that brings us all behind the scenes.
Watch Skunk Machine take you behind the scenes of the Cerra GT 865 build. During this episode, you’ll see what goes into a build like this and how it’s done. These four videos give you a look at all the stages involved in such an endeavour and many details that may otherwise go unnoticed during a typical build session.
Episode 1 shows the overall plan and how folks from Skunk Machine installed the front end loaned from the 2015 Suzuki GSX-R. While the electronics arrived from Motogadget.
This is Episode 2 of a four-part series on the build of a truly one-of-a-kind custom build. There’s much to be said for the fit and finish, but it’s not only about that. You will see the attention to detail where carbon fibre was laid, clay models fashioned by hand, and the digital scanning process.
The Cerra GT 865 is a beast of a machine, so it only seems fitting that the build process would be just as intense. At Skunk Machine, they continue looking at this build process through Episode Three. In this video, they take you behind the scenes and into the depths of custom to observe and learn more about what’s involved in bringing this machine to look beautiful by infusing resin and carbon fibre components to life.
Many motorcycle enthusiasts are actively working on creating one-off projects, whether for their personal use or just for the love of creating. Not all custom bikes will make it to production, but some can do better than others. The Cerra GT 865 is a motorcycle designed from the ground up to be a custom machine and based on its history, we wouldn’t be surprised if it eventually appears in dealerships.
