78 CB 750 Cafe Street Fighter (part 2)

I am using a 4 into 1 pipe I got with the bike. I think it's an old mac exhaust. Made an end cap work off a ATV and a piece of aluminum strap I had to finish it off. I made an inner baffle for it that I will wrap with fiberglass packing. Also made a pipe guard. Still need to paint it and I will probably wrap the header with black header wrap to give it that hot rod look.

Cleaned and painted the engine. I also added a bolt kit to make it all look fresh.

After I did all the finishing welding on the frame and removed any unwanted tabs I had the frame , swingarm and shock spring powder coated. Started putting things back together. Mounted the motor, suspension, oil tank, braided oil lines, shock, and a couple other parts.

My least favorite part of the build is all the wiring needed for this project. I used most of the CB's harness to start with and removed anything that would not be needed, plus cut everything to fit. I had to wire the CBR954 switches so they would all work. Plus all my home made lights as well as the Koso gauges. I removed the original CB's separate regulator and rectifier then wired in a combined unit from a newer CB750. Took a couple of days to finish, but so far so good. Here is a shot of underneath the seat. The seat rails on the frame are fitted with 4 locating pins an heavy duty Velcro to secure the seat and for easy access to the electrics, fuses, battery and oil fill.

Painted and header wrapped the exhaust system. I completely went through and thoroughly cleaned the carbs in my sonic cleaner. I re-jetted them and set all the float levels. Also mounted a choke knob on them in front of the petcock. I may have to do some fine tuning, but I should be close on the jetting.

Here is a pic from the other side of the bike. The filters are made by Emgo. I drilled the holes in the chrome covers for looks.

Everything is back from paint. Here are a couple of pics of the Tank, front fender ,front cowl and tail section. Went with traditional Honda colors to give this bike a factory look. I painted the front fender to make the rear bracket look like it was an aluminum brace to match the front bracket so the fender would go with the style of the bike.

Made a cover to fit under the sub-frame also mounted a license plate bracket and light to it. This will keep any water and dirt from getting kicked up on the electrics. Also gives it a cleaner look.

Seats done. Couple of pics. Really happy with my new upholstery guy. I used countersunk washers and stainless bolts instead of snaps to secure it to the base. This is the fun part putting it back together.

The wait is over. Fired the beast and did a short test ride. Idles and runs nice. Good response off idle. Have a slight hiccup in the mid to upper RPM range, so I still need to make some minor jetting changes. Overall really happy with how this bike looks and feels. It rides like a modern sport bike with some old school flair. Will try and get a quick video of it running to post up.
