The history of my Suzuki Desperado 800X
This history proves that there are motorcycles that you do not want to sell, but want to keep and ride for many years. This happens rarely, but...
It was 2007. As often happens, I did not plan to buy this motorcycle, I was looking for v-max or magna, but one friend offered to see his Suzuki desperado 800, after riding on which for one season he decided to change it for a sports bike. The price tag was delicious, and even with installments, so I decided to look at his Desperado. And I was driving, thinking that this was hardly my option. When I sat down on it, I realized it was mine. On the motorcycle there was a tuning seat, which was really perfect. The ratio of weight and dimensions was ideal for me, in general, I bought it without even rolling it. It was December.
Almost every day, when I came to the garage before the season, I started the bike and snorted the exhaust. And when spring finally came, I left the garage and drove. The first impression is very juicy bottoms, the second one - how well it goes, it's no wonder that the previous owner changed it to the sports bike. The ideal ratio of power and weight for a similar type of motorcycle.
Suzuki made a work on mistakes with its Desperado model (also Maradeur for Europe) after the Intruder model. Strengthening the weak places and simultaneously creating a new branch of the power of the cruiser-draggers. The character of the bike does not allow to call it a chopper. A new frame with pendulum bearings (in relation to the intruder) reinforced in 2 times and an inverted fork (giving rigidity of controllability) and a stretched base together give a good stability on the straight line. In the corners, however, you have to slow down (due to the long base), but the wide front wheel allows you even to brake in them.
The engine from Intruder differs not much, but thanks to the chain drive, it saves 10 kg of the total mass.
This is how our life with Desperado began. We went on long trips, rode around the night city, this motorcycle became a part of me. And it was time to change its appearance, in order to emphasize the dragster character. I added a second brake disc, changed the muffler, changed the steering wheel. New headlamp with xenon and optics hella, new side parts and plow. Everything is made of steel by myself. The fuel tank changed its position, and was slightly digested. The front fork is seated in the traverses to reduce the clearance. The speedometer has been replaced by a bicycle one, the control lamp panel was changed for a handmade panel. Now the bike became a real dragster with a low stretched silhouette.
For long trips I installed textile trunks and raised the handleabr (to straighten my back). On the highway the motorcycle is able to speed up to 180 km / h, in a constant mode, even in the rain. A wide front wheel with good rubber adds confidence.
Well, now I will tell about the main problem of all desperado and intruders - carburetors. Firstly, they are different in themselves, and secondly, they stand in different places, behind each cylinder, the front is lying under the tank, and the rear under the seat. Third, there are as many as five cables between them. It's almost impossible to sync and perfectly configure it. And even over the years (my motorcycle is of 1998), the rubber bands lose their elasticity. Last winter, on a run of 60000 km I decided to make a revision of the engine, change the timing chain and oil-sealed caps, rub the valves.
After that, I could not achieve the ideal work of carburettors (in the engine, everything is fine). After spending a week tuning, I decided to do the only true way - throw them. It was decided to put tuning carp Mikuni. They do not have membranes and are simple in their design, which means they are reliable. The installation of new carbs required the construction of one collector (for the front cylinder), making new cables and putting the reusable UNI foam filters.
The result stunned me, and the motorcycle never rode in such a way. It became really evil, a little lost in elasticity. Expenditure in this case almost did not change (in the city to 10, along the highway 5-6). Max speed increased to 210. Dips and gags disappeared. The motorcycle is now always started immediately on 2 cylinders (and not gradually - at first on one, then another).
And believe me, this is a good motorcycle that can please you for many years. Both in the city and on the highway.
I'm not going to sell Desperado, because I like it and we went through a lot together. I wish everyone to find your ideal motorcycle.
