After an unusual MotoGP season that was hampered by various setbacks and issues stemming from the ongoing pandemic, Joan Mir shocked the racing world by clinching the premier class world title, besting the likes of Dovi, Marquez, Vinales, and several other 2020 hopefuls. Rather than simply releasing a replica liveried version of #36 rider’s Ecstar-backed GSX-RR, the Hamamatsu marque has produced a limited edition run of seven 2021 GSX-R100R superbikes, with each of the seven honoring one of Suzuki’s Grand Prix World Championship titles.

Known as the Legend Edition, the models honor Barry Sheene’s 1976 and ’77-winning RG500, Marco Lucchinelli’s 1981 championship-clinching RG500 Gamma, Franco Uncini’s 1982 half-liter two-stroke racer, Kevin Schwantz’s iconic Lucky Strike-liveried RGV500, Kenny Roberts’ (Jr.) RGV that won the 2000 season title, and a model paying tribute to Mir’s title-winning Gixxer. Aside from the throwback race liveries, the Legend Edition R1000R’s also feature monoposto-style tail cowls and a carbon fiber Akrapovič exhaust. Underneath the limited edition liveries lies the same cutting-edge aluminum twin-beam chassis, top-shelf Showa (BFF and BFRC) suspension, and liter-sized liquid-cooled inline four-banger making 202hp and 86.7ft-lbs of torque. Available for order now, the 2021 Suzuki GSX-R1000R Legend Edition is priced at $27,400
