Dottore did tried but Honda didn’t attend his request. Valentino Rossi asked Honda for the NSR 500 with which he won the last world championship with the mythical two-stroke 500cc.

Well, it’s a complicated story, I don’t have a big answer. But this bike is also very important to us, as we have it in a museum. Honda is very proud of the titles it has won, and also the titles that Rossi has won with us. I’m sure we want to have this as a very important trophy at home to show our fans that we were able to win the title with that bike’, said Alberto Puig in reaction to Valentino Rossi’s words in Valencia:

I spoke with Alberto and asked him for at least 500, because this is my 500. Supposedly Honda was going to give me this bike and I already had a place prepared at home. But for some reason the bike never arrived. It would be a joy for Honda to change its mind and give it to me. I will keep the bike well, at a good temperature and it will have a good place in my house.

The veteran made it known that of the nine bikes he was world champion with, only the 2001 Honda NSR500 and the 2002 and 2003 RC211V are missing from his personal collection.
