1982 Cagiva/Ducati 750 Special Build
This one-of-a-kind sporting machine is the result of the compatibility of Cagiva and Ducati components from those model years when both brands were divisions of the same company with shared engineering. The goal of the custom build was to create a very special middleweight super sport machine incorporating the best individual major components and offering thrilling street performance and a race ready set up for track use.
The bike is based on the frame of the 1982 Cagiva Alazzurra 350, a very rigid and compact unit. This frame readily accommodated a brand new, factory fresh Ducati 749cc V-Twin Euro specification motor fitted with original 749 engine management CPU and throttle bodies, cooled by Ducati 749 radiators. The exhaust system is custom built to suit motor and frame and delivers a bravura tone. Electrics and gauges are also Ducati 749 components. A weight saving Magneti Marelli Lithium battery is fitted.
Chassis set up includes a Cagiva Mito alloy front rim, Ducati 916 front dual discs suspended from a Ducati 900SS fork. On the rear a stout double sided Ducati 999S swingarm anchors a 999S alloy rim and brake suspended via a 999S rear shock. Controls include the 749 instruments and Brembo RCS brake and clutch master cylinders.
One novel detail is a handcrafted auxiliary fuel tank under the seat cowl to optimize weight distribution. Cagiva Mito 125 fairings complete the sleek look. A fresh set of body decals is included with the bike.
The result of the happy marriage of all this alloy and magic is a sensational bike to ride. The compact wheelbase and frame geometry delivers an exceptionally nimble motorcycle and the strong 749 powerplant provides rocket power for tight roads and tracks. The sound is raucous and rowdy and the “MadMan” really rocks.
