Legendary Machines: 1974
This endurance racer was powered by a 900 Super 4 (#Z1) engine, bored up to #998cc. Piloted by George #Godier and alan #Genou, this machine competed in the 1974 European Endurance Championship and won the title for Kawasaki - despite not having factory support! The team also won the 24-hour races in Barcelona and Bol d'Or, showing the base engine's high potential. Air flowed through a bank of 4 Keihin carburettors with mechanically operated step-up rods. A 5-core oil cooler was also featured. It ran 18" wheels, front and back. The front discs were gripped by AP racing calipers. Marzocchi shocks supported the rear. Typical of racers at the time, the fuel-tank was specially designed to allow riders to lie flat on the tank to escape the wind.
