Report Frohburg (Germany) last race of the season!

The last two races of the season, we're closing fast.
After the crash in Imatra(Finland)we had a lot of damage on the Honda. ( whole report of that race and crash in an earlier post)
Despite all the efford of José (Ilja his girlfriend) we didn't know if we were able to prepare the bike in time.
An other team from The Netherlands ( who's driver was leader of our championship) offered us to join them that weekend on their reserve R6!

Ilja drove his own Honda for 5 years now, and never cheated on his puprle machine in the meantime.. But it was a chance we had to get!

Never droven on an yamaha before, he was thightly tested during the first qualifications in Germany. At first it was really hard to get a good feeling with the machine. During the day we changed some setup on the bike to adjust it to Ilja his personal wishes..
Despite that, he already drove 0,8sec quicker than on his own Honda last year on this track, halfway this day!

The first race of the open class was a dramatic start.. We never realised he never had a start with this bike before, and we we're forgotten to make some test starts..
After the start he drove at 16th place.. But he knew to fight back through the field and (with some help of a few dropouts) he knew to end 6th place!!

The weather of sunday was not really great.. Through the night we had quite some rain, but in the morning it was just some sun with drizzle..
After inspecting the track (no water and some parts quick drying) we choose for slicks and dry-weather setup.
Don't know if that was the right choise, track was wetter than we tought, so Ilja finished disappointed on a 12th place.

After that we had the race of an open class, a few of the other drivers decided to skip this one because they wanted to save themselves and their bikes etc for the real race and their points in the championship..
Ilja did drive this race to make as much meters as possible on the R6.

As expected wasn't a briljant start, but it got better during the day. After the first round, he already came through 6th!!
It didn't took him long to get in front of the field and he drove 3th place for a few rounds,(behind his Dutch buddy, Davy) got in a 2th place for one round, but then got back in 3th..
IT was obvious that he could take that 2th place, he was quicker as the other guy, but didn't know the bike/brakes as good as de Honda.
The last bend of the race he did try anyway, he came passed Davy by braking later, but because the Yamaha brakes slight different then the Honda he got wide out of that corner.. Only he opened the throttle to continu, witch caused a huge highsider!
Davy couldn't avoid Ilja anymore and drove over his legs..
Just like Imatra, he left the track in an ambulance.

He is fine, we were scared his foot was broken again, but after some X-rays that was ruled out!

In short; was a great weekend, with a great experience! Ilja now knows he's a bit too greavy.. Some times he has to leave it for what it is and go for 3th place in staid of 2th :)

Note: he drove almost 2 seconds quicker then his personal record of last year on the Honda.
And he drove just 2 seconds behind the quickest guys in the field...
I have some good expectations for next year! :)
