Exhaust and Rearsets
Lat night I switched the 2-up footrests back to the standard solo rearsets. Very simple switch on the left side, a bit trickier on the right side. The left rearset just bolts on, but the right needs the brake pedal and brake light switch calibrated. I'm impressed with the polished finish on the factory rearsets. They have a custom-made look.
I removed the exhaust that was fitted to the bike and was a bit surprised when I took the bubble wrapping off the spare exhast that was included in the deal. I was expecting a stock exhaust but instead found an unused chrome performance exhaust with a Supertrapp muffler of a completely different configuration. It has a 2-into-1 header and a nice clean slim tapered muffler. The exhaust that came off the bike had tapered headers of a greater diameter than stock, with a big "pre-muffler" catalytic convertor thingy on the bottom exiting into an oversized Supertrapp pipe. I think the bike will look a lot cleaner with the thinner pipe. Hopefully it will run better as well.
I don't plan to install the other header until I get the exhaust residue cleaned from the front of the engine. I also removed the makeshift smog block-off kit that was fashioned from 2 USA pennies. I've ordered a proper block-off kit. While this bike is rare, it's easy to get engine parts for because it shares most of its engine design with the XR600R.
Smog ports can bee seen here without the two cents. I need to come up with a way to clean the exhaust residue without ruining the finish on the cylinder
Solo rearset with exhaust bracket. Note the high quality polished, machined look to everything.
Left solo rearset. Oops, out of focus
Heavy, bulky pipe that was on the bike in the background, pipe that I plan to install in the foreground. Yes I still play with Lego.
