Suzuki SV650-SV1000 recommendations
Many owners of Suzuki SV650-1000 motorcycles and motorcycles based on them are probably aware of extremely annoying diseases of these motors. The most basic and frightening moment is oil starvation.
Let's consider the most common cases and their solutions.
1. Pilot's own inattention, last month oil was there and today it is not.
Check before each trip.
2. Skidding and prolonged riding on the rear wheel. Due to a design flaw in the oil troughs, the chance of ruining the engine is extremely high. I solved this problem a long time ago and the motor after assembly has traveled about 10,000 km of which 500 on the rear.
Try to avoid riding on the rear wheel or modify the motor.
3. wear of cylinder-piston group and oil caps.
Repair. Some pour thicker oil as a temporary measure, which in principle, normal practice if it is in the table of tolerances for this engine.
4. The problem of the oil pump, twice met in my practice. Unfortunately, until you take it apart, you will not understand.
Check oil pressure more often than required by the regulations.
5. Poor quality or inappropriate oil. This variant is very common and because of this and point 3, there is an opinion that the engine eats oil and this is normal. Fortunately this is far from being the case. Because if you measure compression or oil pressure in the line, the results will be far from nominal. Even with normal compression and oil pressure, fake or inappropriate oil will burn at speeds closer to maximum. This happens literally before your eyes. If you are convinced in the opposite, that the motor is 2005 and has passed only 15 000 and this is the norm for SV - stay away from such motorcycles and sellers. Suzuki has been making engines for a while, and they would have solved this "problem" for sure.
Pour quality oil from a trusted source. If you have always used Motul and everything was fine, and then after changing the level suddenly dropped after evening sprints, it makes sense to think about it.
And lastly a couple of pictures of killed crankshafts.
Light form:
But unfortunately it is not repairable. Root and one connecting rod liner are intact.
Heavy mold:
Replaced the crankshaft, all liners and both connecting rods.
