Hoodie HD Pan America 1250
Last summer Harley-Davidson shocked practically everyone with its insane plans for three fascinating, decidedly non-Harley models based on a modular platform with a water-cooled engine. The Streetfighter, Custom 1250, Pan America 1250 should be shown up in Harley showrooms around the world over the next couple years.
Over the past year, Harley has completely changed its goals, as the American manufacturer catastrophically needs the younger generation of riders. The company's management set the task of expanding its customer base, so they started investing into development of electric cycles and motorcycles, which might have seemed a bit weird 10 years ago.
In all three sets, we see an evolution from the prototypes we saw in July to what are probably more production ready designs. There are small changes like:
- cast wheels for the Pan America
- different rear subframe mounting points on the Custom 1250
- a license plate assembly on the Streetfighter
What about bigger changes?
Pan America 1250
- V-Twin engine in a twin-spar frame (looks like an engine brace linking the rear cylinder to the headstock)
- radiator crash bars
- decent sized windscreen(possibly adjustable)
- off-road style handguards
- conventional front forks
- dual disc brake set-up
- somemounting points below the pillion seat and sub-frame rails (out to the back of the luggage rack)
The unnamed naked
- 1250cc engine range
- low-slung exhaust
- banana-shaped swingarm
- re-tuned43mm forks
- deep belly pan
An interesting addition to both the Streetfighter and Pan America is the odd protection around bike's rear tire and final drive chain.A saree guard is just what it says on the tin, a barrier to prevent the flowing sarees worn by women in India from getting caught up in a bike's rear tire. That addition suggests that these bikes will be sold in India which, honestly, is a really smart move for the Motor Company.
Everything that is represented by dotted lines (the bikes' engines, braking system), isn’t a part of the current filling.
The sketches definitely shed more light on the upcoming bikes, but there are still more questions, than answers. The new bikes are due to start hitting dealers from 2020 onwards. And the only thing left is to wait.
