With the new Euro V emission norms set to kick in from next year, bike makers are busy updating their motorcycles. And the latest one to join this list is the Yamaha MT-07. A camouflaged test mule was recently spotted, and it seems like besides upgrading it for emission compliance, Yamaha will also tweak the motorcycle slightly to keep it fresh.

We don’t expect the upcoming Yamaha MT-07 to get any major changes compared to the current model. Going by the spy shots, updates are likely to include a new LED headlamp and an updated instrument cluster. A slightly restyled exhaust system suggests that Yamaha might tweak the 689cc powerplant to meet the new emission norms. In the current model, this motor pumps out 75PS of power and 68Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

The suspension setup could be similar to the current MT-07 -- a telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. It features disc brakes (282mm front and 245mm rear) at either end and dual-channel ABS is offered as a standard fitment. When it comes to electronic aids, the MT-07 feels archaic compared to its rival, the KTM 790 Duke. So Yamaha might update the upcoming bike with ride modes, traction control and cornering ABS (optional).

As of now, there’s no word from Yamaha about the official launch, but we assume that it could be showcased at the 2019 EICMA motorcycle show, followed by a probable launch in 2020.

  • The new MT-07 features a restyled exhaust system.
  • The 689cc motor could be the same as the current model.
  • It might get an updated, fully digital instrument cluster along with a new LED headlight.
