Custom motorcycle shop Kontrast Kreations has restored a classic BMW R51/2.
Shop owner Ramon Seilers was lucky to get his hands on the BMW at all; the R51/2 was only in production for 2 years, and examples are few and far between. And, he didn’t squander the opportunity. The 1950s-built speedster underwent a complete rebuild that started with a restoration of the gearbox and engine.
The team at Konstrast Kreations added a fuel tank from an R51/3, in addition to repainting the cylinders and replacing the wheels with new spokes and a fresh coat of paint. Additional components, like knee pads and a new seat pan, were covered in brown leather to give the bike its classic appeal.
Last, new Brooks bicycle grips, a custom-made license plate bracket, and a tail light mix with the original headlight were brought into play, for a completely custom look that blends traditional charm with modern features. The result is a bike with an intoxicatingly nostalgic look.
