Given the popularity of BMW GS-series motorcycles, the appearance of another interesting project is not surprising. The Dutch company LBS worked closely with American customizer Mike Paul to create a BS Stepler sidecar based on the 2011 BMW R1200GS Adventure. It looks great.
Sidecar design—and the complex geometry required—is an art, but it looks like LBS have this sussed. The chassis is built in Europe, and shipped to the USA for installation and customization in Washington State in the Pacific Northwest.
It’s a big step up from the typical vintage BMW sidecar rig, or even a current Ural outfit. If we were planning a transcontinental trip and didn’t fancy roughing it, this would be top of the list.
Details of the project:
- fiberglass body kit
- steel frame
- adjustable heated passenger seat from Land Rover Defender
- marine quality electrical wiring
- custom lever rear suspension with large shock absorber
- 15-inch aluminum wheels
- custom paint job worth $ 10,000
- 120-liter luggage box in the back of the sidecar
