A stripped-down version of Yamaha’s YZF-R15 model is called a M-Slaz. The builds began surfacing in Asia in 2008, and have since gained quite a bit of traction.
Thailand’s K-Speed, on of the shops dedicated to the builds, worked over one of these M-Slazs so well last year that it won second at a custom bike competition and was sold off to a Taiwanese customer.
This year K-Speed has gone even further with its newest M-Slaz customization, which it calls the “Monkey-Slaz” Tracker.
K-Speed got to work by cutting the original rear frame, building a new custom one, and lowering the seat height to accommodate for the customer. Shop owner Eak called his friends over at Vee Rubber to get a new pair of 140/80-17s tires, which make the bike look bigger without adding height to the ride. Eak also added a new pair of low-rise RZM Racing handlebars to help complete the new stance.
To stop the Monkey-Slaz, K-Speed added Brembo brake units to both the front and rear calipers, along with new master cylinders for the brake and clutch.
But what is Eak’s favorite part of his newest custom build? Interestingly enough, it is the muffler. “It’s a unique look, and I put quite a bit of time into the design,” the K-Speed’s owner said. “It really adds character to the finished bike.” Have a look. We think you’ll agree.
