Cruiser Magic2's custom Intruder 800 has been around for more than a year, but the slinky showbike has undergone its most striking changes just recently, prompting us to profile the sexy beast.

Squeezing that hefty 170-series Metzeler tire onto the 1999 VS800 Intruder didn't happen without substantial redesign by Cruiser Magic2 (or CM2), but the homegrown Southern California customizing shop is known for sweating the small stuff too like tweaking a handmade tri-riser drag bar for a year in order to ensure a seamless fit. Owner Jim Erickson and a few dedicated cohorts create their custom pieces in a tiny, unassuming garage on the outskirts of Anaheim.

The slim Suzuki, dubbed Invader II, sits two inches lower than stock thanks to a Progressive Suspension lowering kit and B&T; Smooth-Ride air shocks. Sleek Kryakyn Mini Silver Bullet turn signals and taillights with brilliant Radiantz LED inserts add crucial illumination. Jardine forward controls with mini floorboards, Paul Yaffe mirrors, Ness pegs and a Dakota Digital instrument cluster are practically the only other non-CM2 items adorning the bike.

The bike's focal point is a Ness 5 3/4-inch tri-bar headlamp on a handmade billet bracket. Billet braided cables clean up the front end, and extraneous lines are carefully routed through the triple clamp and head tube. Chromed drag pipes with interchangeable tips, the top triple clamp and a vertical side-mount license holder are the brainchildren of the Cruiser Magic2 crew. Even the immaculate teardrop fuel tank is custom-stretched, with a flush-mounted gas cap.

But equally eye-catching are the stock parts the master cylinder features a chrome dip, while the stock front fender sprouts stylishly skirted sides. The stock seat pan now flaunts an ostrich cover and resides atop a West Coast Choppers rear fender. A 21-inch Metzeler front tire rolls on stock rims and hubs chromed by Orange County Plating and enhanced by 60 polished stainless steel spokes from Wheel Works. It's clamped by slick four-piston Performance Machine calipers.

The engine sports custom porting, ground cams with heavy-duty valve springs and a CM2 Stage II Jet Kit for rip-roaring acceleration. An intricate Chameleon flame graphic by painter Bill Davis bathes the Intruder in an otherworldly glow. Invader II has become something of a business card for the small shop, scoring Best of Show prizes and paint awards, while showcasing Cruiser Magic2's myriad custom tidbits. If this sleek signature is any indication of the company's success, business is booming.
