Yamaha RD400 Rebuild

I bought it from a friend. It had been sitting for probably over twenty years. It looked like someone tried to make it a cruising bike with the fairing/windshield, highway bars, and luggage rack.
First things first, disassemble everything. Crusty would be a good word to describe its condition.
Then all the unused frame tabs and such were chopped off along with the rear end. A custom bent rear hoop and tail section mounting tabs were welded on.
Ready for powdercoating
Making the rear tail section from a flat sheet of steel was a learning experience.
The engine needed much cleaning inside and out. The top end was rebuilt.
Things are looking much cleaner after powdercoating.
Keep adding parts
Finally it rolls
