Service and replacement of pads on Brembo Gold P4.30/34 65mm calipers

The Ducati ST4s ABS has some of the best brakes of the day: Brembo Gold P4.30/34 brakes with 65mm ear mounts. First of all, they need to be removed from the bike (your captain obvious).
These calipers and pads have gone 17,000 kilometers since the last cleaning and new pads were installed.

As you can see, on one of the pads is already erased slit in the composition, this is just a mark that signals the replacement of pads, if it is no longer there - change the pads, the residual layer corresponds to 1mm.

These calipers consist of two halves and the calipers are not "monoblock", they are connected by 4 M10 bolts, you need to unscrew them and the caliper will split into two halves. Careful! Do not lose the o-ring between the halves.

This is how the disassembled caliper looks like. Now we go to the bathtub and with the help of Fairey and toothbrush wash the halves of the caliper, cylinders do not touch, in no case do not push in, as the dust and dirt can scratch and damage the sealing rubbers.
After washing the calipers, using a compressor or soft cloth and pliers carefully pull out the pistons trying not to damage them, if scratched piston, it should be polished, in my case the pistons are anodized (although it seems to me that they are generally ceramic metal) and their damage leads to a complete replacement of the piston.

With the help of a wooden toothpick or a blunt screwdriver we pull out the rubber seals, very carefully not to damage them, otherwise we will have to order new ones on Ebay, or if they are already damaged, we buy new ones, in my case they are completely intact.
Next, a good wash.
I also use K2 engine cleaner, it perfectly washes away deposits and degreases everything.
The seating places of the rubbers should be carefully looked at, sometimes there is dirt stuck there, I remove it with cotton swabs and alcohol. All dry, I dry the caliper halves and cylinders on the radiator, the rubbers are just wiped.

Next, we take LiquiMoly antiskripping paste, I tried VMPAuto MC1600 - it is not bad, but it tends to clog the channels in the caliper, it is only for pads and guides to use, LiquiMoly is suitable for guides and for the dust covers / salshniki working cylinders. This paste lubricate the rubbers and the working surface of the cylinders and carefully press the cylinders into the caliper with your fingers.

Next we grease a little O-ring between the calipers with the same grease and screw the caliper halves together, use blue thread locker and tighten the bolts to about 20Nm+-2Nm.

After wearing out the original Brembo pads, judging by the model they were baked, I installed a substitute for the original: FERODO FDB2042ST, the basic model goes as FDB2042**, and prefixes ST - Sintered (baked), P - Premium (organics), the pads are quite good, have a squeak at about zero speeds and a nice price tag of 1366 rubles at the time of purchase, that is, 2700 rubles completely on the front brakes, now at the time of writing are 1654 rubles for one caliper set. Last season I had the experience of putting Brembo Carbon Ceramic pads on the rear brakes, the pads have a peculiar algorithm of braking: the more you brake, the more they warm up, the more they brake. In general I decided to put them on the front, the more so that for a set on the front they got for a very tasty price of 2401 rubles for 4 pads, I'll drive on them, if I don't like them - I'll go back to the baked ones from Brembo. Pads model: Brembo 07BB19.35 - postfix .35 - Carbon Ceramic, Brembo 07BB19.SA - .SA - Sintered (baked).

Part 2 coming soon...
