Ever since Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman made The Long Way Down, the BMW R1200 GS went from a well-known industry juggernaut of an adventure motorcycle to the pop culture mascot for the entire segment. And it’s not by mistake, either. Granted, it’s one of the biggest and heaviest adventure bikes out there, but few other motorcycles can soak up the miles (paved or not) quite like the GS.
This R1200 GS Rallye goes one step further with all the extras and add-ons:
The bodywork is finished in Alpine White over a Magma Red frame, and features include BMW Motorrad graphics, an onboard computer, GPS system, and heated grips. Several additions were sourced from Tourtech-USA, including fender extensions, guards, and a Zega Pro aluminum pannier set.
The exterior panels are finished in Alpine White and wear BMW Motorrad graphics. The frame is finished in Magma Red, the swing arm in Asphalt Grey Metallic, and the engine in black with Granite Grey Metallic cylinder head covers. The AltRider crash bar is color-matched to the frame, and a leather Kahedo touring saddle and a second stock seat with rear pad.
Cross-spoke wheels are fitted with Michelin Anakee 3 tires. Numerous aftermarket guards and protection grilles from Touratech-USA have been added, including:
- Front and rear fender extensions
- Mud guard protector
- Black frame protectors
- Oil cooler grille
- Exhaust flap cover
- Throttle potentiometer cover
- Carden crash guard
A Zega Pro aluminum pannier set includes stainless steel side mounts and a top case mount. Included in the sale are the removed stock luggage and racks, additional pannier liners, and removable pannier handles.
Instrumentation includes on onboard computer, BMW GPS system, and an electronic odometer. Heated grips are equipped along with guards finished in white, and a bar riser extension is included. Modifications include side stand extension pads, oversized foot pegs, and a Bob’s Wrist Rest throttle controller.
2012 was the final year of the air-cooled GS engine, and the 1,170cc twin is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with an added adjustable folding shifter. The DOHC boxer engine was rated for 110 horsepower when new, and the chrome exhaust system can be seen in the gallery below. In the last two years, the seller has reportedly changed the oil three times with Motul fluid and K&N filters.
