78 CB 750 Cafe Street Fighter

Started this project a little while back so I will get you guys caught up on my build. Started with a 78 CB750K. Turning it into a café fighter with modern forks and a single shock. Here are a couple of pics of what I started with. Frame was tweeked on this bike but I have straight one that I replaced it with. Tank is off of a CB550.

I am using a 03 CBR954 front end. I modified the steering stem to fit the CB frame. The swingarm is off a 97 CBR F3. Only had to do some minor mods to make that fit like making the pivot holes bigger in the frame. Also found a tail section that will work.

I am using a set of 6 spoke Honda wheels, Rear is a CBR F3, Front is from a RC51. Both with the same spoke pattern. Had them both powder coated gloss black. The rear was a direct bolt on. The sprocket alignment is the same on the CBR F3 and 77-78 CB750's so that worked out well. The front RC51 wheel needed some mods to fit the CBR954 front end, I used CBR954 wheel bearings , modified the center bearing spacer and had to fab 2mm wider wheel spacers. Mounted the 954 330mm rotors, should stop good. Fitted the rims with a couple of Dunlop tires and mounted them up.

Here is a couple shots of the shock and mount. Figured out my rear suspension ratios. pivot and mounting points. I am using a CBR F4 shock and CBR F3 swingarm and linkage. Made some mounts and tacked them in place.

More progress. I cut the rear of the frame off and bent some tubing to fit the tail section. I also welded the top tubes back into the frame as they were cut out by the previous owner to remove the engine . I had to modify one tube to clear the petcock for the 550 tank and had to rework the triangle piece that connects the 3 tubes so the tank would clear it. I will clean all this up later as well as add some more bracing.
I used rear sets from a CBR600F3 and drilled them out for looks. Drilled and welded treaded mounts right to the frame.

Since I did not have enough room for the stock oil tank because of the single shock I had to make one. I cut away all the fittings from the stock tank to use in the new one. I cut my steel pieces and welded it together and installed the fittings. I managed to maintained the stock oil capacity. Mounted it to my new sub-frame. Going to get some steel braided lines to hook it all up.

Decided to make the seat a little longer so the bike would look more symmetrical plus it will give the rider a little more room to move around.

Took care of the instrument panel. Using KOSO digital tach and speedo. I made a small panel in between the gauges and used some mini LED's for my indicator lights. Found this cool little headlight on Ebay. I made a cowl fairing for it out of a couple of pocket bike rear fenders. Fits nice.

I used a CBR954 front fender, but cut it down and added some aluminum braces to fit the look I am going for.

I made 2 cool side panels to cover the oil tank out of aluminum mesh and a piece of flat stock. I also made a custom tail light out of 2 round LED lights and some aluminum, and a couple of stainless screws. I will use the tail lights as integrated turn signals as well. Welded in 3 mounts on each side of the frame to secure the panels.
