Part 8 Suzuki DR650

Needed to make up a new kickstand. As I said before I got a shortened one with the 17" wheels. But that one was too short.
It's 3" shorter than stock.

So while looking online to see what length I should have the new one at I stumbled on a post about making an adjustable stand out of the stocker. I copied his design, but added a couple of things that I thought would improve it a little.
First up cut the shorty stand at the weld. P.S. a chop saw is a very handy tool have.

Next up weld washers on the cut ends. (This is part of the "improvements")

Tap dat shiz. 3/4-10 NC...

Thread in your threaded rod. Then drill a hole all the way through to insert a roll pin to tie the rod and the foot together. (Another "improvement")

Tap the top piece so you can thread the foot into it.

Cut down your threaded rod. Then put on a lock washer (2nd part of the "improvements" and reason for welded flat washer) and nut.

Thread that into the top piece and add the nut and lock washer on that end. This is at stock height. There is 3/4" of rod in the top piece at this point.

Stand back and revel in the glory.

Adjustable stand parts: $24
Tap, rod, hardware...(built not bought... priceless..
Yup.

Frame, oil cooler guard, fork legs, and cut mirror stems are now at powder coat. Will see them back before the end of the month. In the mean time, some motor work. Pulled the jug.

Wall looked super-d-duper.

So I painted it wrinkle black. With some harley (there goes 10hp) wrinkle paint left over from that motor build. It works real good though.

Cleaned the combustion chamber on the head. And then pulled the valves.

JE high compression piston. Goes from 9.5:1 to 10.5:1, nothing crazy but I had to change the leaky base gasket and while I was in there I figured why not. With a rejet and the exhaust it will all compliment each other.

Got the rings gaped and got it in it's home.

I had painted the bottom-end gloss black. Then I picked up a blue engine bolt kit from pro-bolt. Got that all installed.

JE piston kit + top end gasket kit: 169.95
Probolt kit: $50 or so...
Engine paint: $25
